PRP for psoriasis

PRP for psoriasis – Eternal Aesthetics

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is being explored as a potential treatment for psoriasis, but it is not yet considered a mainstream or first-line therapy. Here’s a breakdown of what is currently known:

POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF PRP FOR PSORIASIS

PRP is rich in growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which may help:

  • Modulate immune response – Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease; PRP may help regulate inflammation.
  • Improve skin healing – Especially useful in areas of plaque damage or after topical treatments or laser.
  • Reduce flare-ups – Small studies suggest some improvement in plaque thickness, itching, and redness.

What Does the Research Say?

  • Small studies and case reports (mostly 2020–2023) have shown improvement in localized plaque psoriasis, particularly when PRP is combined with microneedling.
  • The results are not yet conclusive, and larger, controlled trials are needed.
  • PRP is generally well tolerated, with minimal side effects (mostly mild injection site discomfort).

❌ Limitations

  • Not a cure – PRP may reduce symptoms but will not eliminate the autoimmune basis of psoriasis.
  • Not for severe or widespread cases – More useful in localized or treatment-resistant areas.
  • Cost and access – It’s not covered by NHS or insurance and may be expensive.

💡 When Might PRP Be Worth Considering?

  • In patients with stable, plaque-type psoriasis, especially in small, resistant patches.
  • As an adjunct to microneedling, laser, or topical treatments.
  • In clinics with experience in PRP for dermatologic conditions.
